Another JE death in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Aug 6 � A 17-year-old girl from Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh has died of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in an Assam hospital, thus bringing the JE death toll in the State to two.

The teenaged girl, hailing from Longman village under Jairampur sub-division of Changlang district died at Sanjeevani Hospital, Dibrugarh on August 2 last, confirmed the State Epidemiologist Dr L Jampa here yesterday. Earlier, a 10-year-old girl from Sippi village in Upper Subansiri district, who was admitted to Arunachal State Hospital at Naharlagun, died of JE on July 24 last.

An official release from Changlang said that following the death of the young girl, a medical team from the district headquarters had rushed to the village to attend to any other fever cases. The team conducted an IEC (information, education and communication) session on JE. It further said, the District Health Society, Changlang is carrying out IEC on JE all over the district along with ongoing Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight observance to prevent the outbreak of JE in the district.

Changlang DMO Dr S Chai Pul said that the Society is conducting fogging drive in the entire Jairampur area and on its completion the same will be conducted in other areas of the district prone to JE, especially piggery farm areas, besides spraying of DDT.
