Another Cong MLA resigns in Mizoram

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Oct 22 - Mizoram Pradesh Congress suffered yet another setback today as its MLA Hmingdailova Khiangte resigned, to be the fourth Congress MLA who quit ahead of the November 28 State Assembly elections.

Khiangte, who was one of the eight sitting MLAs who were denied Congress ticket, today tendered his resignation to Assembly Speaker Hiphei, who accepted it.

Khiangte did not divulge his next course of action, as to which party he would join. I will reveal the motive behind my resignation in a press conference in the next few days, he told reporters outside the Assembly.

He refused to comment on rumours that he would contest on independent ticket. All he said was I will be a lone ranger. Khiangte, 73, has been elected from Tuirial constituency for two consecutive terms since 2008. He was made a Parliamentary Secretary under the Lal Thanhawla Government.

The Congress party has fielded Joseph L Ralte, a new face in the Congress party, from Tuirial seat. This apparently was the cause of Khiangtes discontentment. Ralte was his opponent in the 2013 elections and defeated him by a small margin.
