GUWAHATI, Oct 3 - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police on Saturday arrested one Abhijit Boro from Ghoramora Chariali area of the city in connection with the SI recruitment scam. The arrested person was a candidate of the recruitment examination and had stayed in Hotel Bhargav Grand in the intervening night of September 19 and 20.
Senior officials of Assam Police had stated that on September 19, a number of candidates checked in at Hotel Bhargav Grand � owned by former DIG and one of the prime accused of the scam PK Dutta � and checked out in the morning of September 20. Notably, Boro was arrested in a case of hijacking of a truck loaded with supari and the subsequent killing of its driver and handyman.
Till date, the CID has arrested 10 persons in connection with the scam, but the prime accused, PK Dutta, continues to be on the run.
The Crime Branch of Guwahati Police is also questioning another prime accused Diban Deka. His police remand will end on October 5.
In the same case, Nalbari police has arrested 11 persons so far and search operations are on in different places to arrest all the other absconding accused.
