GUWAHATI, Jan 6 � The fourth annual convention of the 1960 Gauhati University Matriculates� Association was held here on Sunday with much pomp and gaiety.
Among those who spoke in the convention were Col (retired) Robin Das and senior athlete Biren Medhi of Mangaldoi. Monoranjan Das recited a poem by revolutionary poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Some of the members, such as Pragati Bora, Alaka Deka, artiste Sanchayita, etc., sang songs of yore.
Earlier, the associations� souvenir Smritir Papori, edited by Prof (Dr) Pabitra Kumar Patowary, was released by Dr Prafulla Chandra Mahanta, ex-director of Technical Education, Assam.
Rana Pratap Bezbaruah, secretary of the association, introduced the new members.
He also congratulated, on behalf of the association, film actor Nipon Goswami, singer Ramen Chowdhury and athlete Biren Medhi for getting State and distinguished awards in different fields.
The convention elected Sisir Kumar Baruah as president, Rana Pratap Bezbaruah as secretary and Bimal Medhi as treasurer of the association for the coming year.
