Annual general meeting of AAU pensioners� body held

GUWAHATI, March 4 - The annual general meeting of the Assam Agricultural University Pensioners� Association was held recently in the conference hall of the Director of Extension Education, Khanapara with president of the organisation Dr Bhupen Baruah in the chair, said a delayed press release issued here.

At the beginning of the meeting, one minute�s silence was observed to pay respects to the departed members of the organisation. After that general secretary SN Phukan read out the organisation�s annual report. Ninety-five-year-old Dr Bhupendranath Kakati regarded as the father of animal obstetrics & gynaecology in the North East and retired teacher of the College of Veterinary Science Dr Sarat Chandra Talukdar were accorded a warm felicitation on the occasion.

In his speech distinguished guest Dr Bibekananda Saikia of the College of Veterinary Science recalled the contributions of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam towards the country. Dr Bhaskar Phukan suggested steps to further strengthen the organisation. President of the meeting Dr Baruah underlined the need for frequent educational and research-related workshops among the students, teachers and former teachers of the College of Veterinary Science.

The new executive committee of the organisation for the next two years was formed at the meeting with Dr Dilip Kumar Lahon as president, Dr Birendra Kumar Konwar as vice president, Dr Keshab Chandra Nath as general secretary, Dr Bhaskar Phukan as joint secretary and Dr Dilip Ranjan Nath as treasurer, the release added.
