JALUKBARI, Oct 24 - The people of Dhopartal, Dharapur near here organised the annual boat race today on the occasion of Lakshmi Puja.
Like every year, the boat race was organised in the River Brahmaputra. A total of 10 beautifully decorated khel naus (traditional boats) took part in the race. People from every nook and corner of the area came to watch the race which was held with great pomp and enthusiasm.
Talking to The Assam Tribune, Kalyanjit Das, one of the organisers said, �Around 15,000 people assembled to enjoy the boat race. Such festivals develop a sense of brotherhood among the people of the area. The river was manned by personnel from Assam Police, SDRF, NDRF, River Police and CRPF. Satish Pegu, ADC Kamrup (M) also attended the event.�
The first prize was won by the team of the boat named �Raijor Ashirbad� and the second prize was bagged by the team of the boat named �Dindayal�, the organisers said.
