Animal medicines distributed in west Jorhat

By Correspondent

JORHAT, Aug 12 - Officials of the State Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department today distributed animal medicines among the farmers of Namgorumora Koibatra Gaon, Ganakbari and other adjoining villages where several cows, heifers, bullocks and calves have died in the aftermath of the recent floods.

Following the instructions of Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal, district-level officials of the Veterinary Department organised a health camp in which farmers of the flood-hit villages alleged that even basic veterinary care was not available for their ailing cattle.

More than 100 farmers received medicines for their ailing cattle and buffalo calves. Villagers have got great relief during this period of crisis, said Probin Borbora of Namgorumora village.

District Nodal Officer of Veterinary Services Dr Lalit Saikia said that as requisite animal medicines were received from the central store in Guwahati a few days back, they were able to distribute the same among the farmers of the flood-hit areas of the district.

Dr Saikia said that the death of 10 heads of cattle was reported from the sandbars of Majuli today. But no fresh incident of death of livestock has occurred in the flood-affected villages of West Jorhat Revenue Circle.
