Anil Ambani offers to keep Kamakhya clean

GUWAHATI, March 21 � Industrialist Anil Ambani today visited the Kamakhya temple and offered to take care of the cleanliness in and around the temple under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

He visited the temple along with wife Tina Ambani and mother Kokilaben Ambani and offered puja. On the request of the members of Kamakhya Debuttar Board, he expressed his willingness to help in keeping the temple premises clean.

It may be noted that Anil Ambani was one of the public figures nominated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for propagating the ambitious cleanliness campaign.

�Anil Ambani has offered to pay the expenses of the staff and workers engaged in the work of temple cleaning. We have 90 permanent staff for taking care of the day-to-day cleaning, whereas during festivals etc., additional workers are engaged. The average payment of the cleaning staff is around Rs 5,000 per month,� said Naba Sarma, general secretary of the Kamakhya Debuttar Board. �We have also asked for his help in reviving the old water supply project in the northern side of Nilachal Hill,� he added.

Later, during a meeting with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Ambani informed the latter about his support to the cleanliness drive in Kamakhya. Gogoi also sought his support for a children�s museum in the State.

�Accepting Gogoi�s proposal, Ambani said his wife Tina Ambani would take necessary steps for this project,� said an official statement of the State government.

On the other hand, Governor PB Acharya inaugurated the All Assam Yoga Competition at Kamakhya today.

In his inaugural speech, the Governor elaborated on the benefits of the practice of yoga and its recognition and practice throughout the world today. �In order to keep our mind and body fit and the soul free, we should make it a habit to regularly practice yoga,� he said.

The three-day competition has been organised by an organising committee under the guidance of Kamakhya Debutter Board and in collaboration with Seva Bharti Purbanchal and Maa Kamakhya Yoga Bikash Kendra, Kamakhya.

The Governor, along with First Lady Kavita Acharya, also offered prayers at the Kamakhya temple.
