Significantly, the wife of the deceased is one of the accused in the case. In connection with the murder case, the police had arrested the wife, Helen alias Thoi Devi (26), and Gram Panchayat pradhan of the locality, Naosekpam Rabi (45), on the same day of the recovery of the body.

In todays incident, a VDF (village defence force) personnel sustained injuries after he was hit by a stone pelted by the angry residents. The police used tear gas and mock bombs in a bid to disperse the agitators. Some vehicles parked outside the police station were also damaged by the mob.

The residents of Bamon Kampu formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of Arun and have demanded capital punishment to both the accused.

Earlier, the residents stormed the court complex of the Imphal East Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) where the two accused were produced under tight security. The agitators, who attempted to attack the two accused, confronted the police.

Amidst the situation, an elder sister of the deceased attempted to commit suicide which was prevented by the police.

Meanwhile, the CJM sent the two accused to judicial custody for 15 days.

After the police dispersed the mob from the court complex, the agitators stormed the police station around 1 pm. The agitators alleged that the police were delaying the investigation into the case.

When the police prevented agitators from entering the police complex, they ransacked the sentry posts at the gate of the station before smashing windshields of two cars parked outside the station campus.
