GUWAHATI, Jan 9 - In yet another achievement in his eventful career in Bollywood, singer Angaraag (Papon) Mahanta has won the award for the best playback singer (male) in the Star Screen Awards, 2016, which was announced in Mumbai late last night.

The singer has bagged the prestigious award for his song Ye Moh Moh Ke Dhaage from the Ayushman Khurana and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Dam Laga ke Haisha, the music for which was scored by veteran music director Anu Malik. The Anu Malik-composed track sung by Papon turned out to be one of the biggest hits of 2015.

The other nominees for the same award were Arijit Singh, Mohit Chauhan, Vishal Dadlani, Ankit Tewari and Atif Aslam.

It is a great feeling to see that such a poignant, slow song was appreciated so much; Monali Thakur won the award (female) for the same song and it was adjudged to have the best lyrics, too. This song and melody has stayed with people and its always a pleasure to be able to sing such songs, said Papon after winning the award.

Hes the man who created a soundtrack like Phir Teri Kahaani Yaad Aayi, which transports me right back to my college days. He designed Ye Moh Moh Ke to my taste, and to my strengths. He kept me in his mind while composing this song. When I heard the first few notes of the melody on the harmonium, I knew I wanted to sing this song, Papon said.

With songs like Moh Moh Ke Dhaage from Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Humnava from Hamari Adhuri Kahani, the reprise version of Tu Jo Mila from Bajrangi Bhaijaan and the critically-acclaimed Darbaan from Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Bombay Velvet, the year 2015 saw Papon giving one hit after another.

The award for the best actor went to Ranveer Singh for Bajirao Mastani and Amitabh Bachchan for Piku, while Deepika Padukone was adjudged the best actress for Piku. The award for best movie went to Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
