JORHAT, Oct 27 - The Jorhat district administration has taken an initiative for the local people to contact plumbers and electricians online vide an App that will be available in mobile phones.
The App has been developed by the Jorhat Engineering College and will be uploaded to the Google from which mobile phone users could download it.
Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Narayan Konwar told The Assam Tribune on Friday that it has been found that there was a huge demand for plumbers and electricians in Jorhat town and many other areas across the district.
He said that under an initiative launched by the district administration, a 30-day programme for imparting training on electrician and plumber trades were conducted at the Prince of Wales Institute of Engineering and Technology (POWIET) for 44 youths in two batches of 22 each. The course of the training programme was formulated by POWIET.
The trainees after completion of their training programmes had to sit for an examination. After qualifying the test, they were given certificates by the Jorhat district administration, the Deputy Commissioner said.
He said the names of the qualified youths with the names and contact numbers will be available in the App. The DC said that the name of the App will be announced within the next two days.
Minister for Labour and Tea Tribes Welfare Pallab Lochan Das is scheduled to launch the App on October 29 at the Conference Hall of the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner�s office.
Konwar said that the training programme will be continued for unemployed youths and subsequently their names and phone numbers will be added to the App. He said that with a large number of building constructions coming up and massive increase in the number of residential houses, a project to supply potable water from the Brahmaputra to the households on the outskirts here will soon be launched. There was great potential of work in these two trades, he mentioned.
