Anaemia-free campaign launched in Manipur

IMPHAL, Sept 20 - To raise awareness about iron deficiency (anaemia), Nongthombam Ongbi Hiyainu Devi, wife of Chief Minister Manipur N Biren Singh, launched the �Anaemia-free Manipur Poster Campaign 2020� under Bharat Vikas Parishad, Manipur at the Chief Minister�s Secretariat here today.

The poster campaign is part of the �Anaemia-free Manipur 2020� initiated by Heikrujam Joybee Devi, a prominent member of Bharat Vikas Parishad, Manipur.

Speaking on the occasion, Heisnam Balkrisna Singh, Director Information and Public Relations Department, said that there is a need for mass awareness campaign about iron deficiency, especially among women in the State.

�With the poster campaign, we can sensitise the people about anaemia and the ways to overcome it,� he said.

Balkrishna also thanked Nongthombam Ongbi Hiyainu Devi for accepting the parishad�s request to become the �brand ambassador� of Anaemia-free Manipur 2020 campaign.

In her address, Heikrujam Joybee Devi extensively talked about the high prevalence of anaemia among women of reproductive age. She stated that almost 20 percent of women in the country are suffering from anaemia and the situation is very alarming.

The poster campaign aims to highlight the importance of iron in our body, signs of iron deficiency, iron-rich foods both vegetarian and non-vegetarian which need to be consumed by the people.

National vice president of Bharat Vikas Parishad Dr Sinam Rajendra Singh, CEO of Eastern Motors Sinam Pritam Singh, and other members of Bharat Vikas Parishad were present during the function. Mention may be made that the poster campaign is supported by Eastern Motors, Manipur.

Narcotics recovered: Assam Rifles troops recovered narcotics worth Rs 72 lakhs on September 18 in Manipur.

According to a press release, during a routine patrol the troops saw a person on a Kenbo bike moving suspiciously on a jungle track.

�On being challenged, the individual dropped his bag along with the bike and fled into the jungle,� said the PRO Assam Rifles (South) in the press release. �The troops recovered narcotics worth Rs 72 lakhs from the bag,� he said.

The recovered consignment comprised brown sugar weighing approximately 360 grams, a mobile phone along with the Kenbo bike, it added.

The recovered items have been handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation.
