AMSA to deal with emergency cases only

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 28 Members of the Assam Medical Service Association (AMSA) will limit their service to only emergency cases during the State Government holidays from August 1 as a mark of protest against the indifferent attitude of the Government.

The members include doctors of almost all the civil hospitals in the State. The AMSA, at present, has 3,600 members across the State.

The association has alleged that the Government by turning deaf ears to their problem has forced them to take such a step.

It further rued that even though the Government had assured to address their grievances by incorporating non-practising allowance of 20 per cent and special pay of 10 per cent in the VI Pay Commission, the same could not be materialised till date.

President of AMSA Dr Ashok Barkotoky told newsmen that they were subjected to discrimination by the State Government over and over again, which compelled them to take such a step.

We will continue the protest till our grievances are looked into, Dr Borkotoky stated.

The AMSA also alleged that gross irregularities have plagued the medical sector with patients going to the Government hospitals facing acute shortage of medicines.
