Ampati to host workshop on kite-flying skills

AMPATI, Dec 13 - Ampati is going to host a workshop on kite flying as the international kite-flyer, Mehul Pathak, and his team will display their skills with some of the largest kites on December 16 and 17.

The globally acclaimed kite-flyers will arrive at Ampati in South West Garo Hills on Wednesday to hold the workshop.

An Ahmedabad-based kite-flying group called MH Kite Club will also participate in the workshop. The club has participated in various international kite festivals with the largest spinner kites. The club also holds The Limca Book of Record for largest spinner kite, ring kite design.

�We were honoured in international kite competitions in the year 2008, 2009 and 2011 at the international kite festival, Ahmedabad by Narendra Modi,� said Pathak, who is associated with the club. He has represented the country in Malaysia, Dubai, Singapore, Taiwan and Australia.

Pathak and his team is also known for making different types of kite � 3D kite, aero foil, inflatable box kite and many more. �I have a collection of more than 100 kites of different shapes and sizes,� he said.

Expressing happiness of being in Meghalaya to showcase kites at the Ampati kite festival, he said, �I am honoured that the district administration and Tourism Department has invited me to hold the workshop and display kites.�

�Our purpose is to enjoy with the people and teach them to fly kite safely. We designed many amazing kites, after which we started participating in international kite festivals,� he said.

�We made 22-foot to 55-foot diameter ring kites in India for the first time. We also designed 3D kites, aerofoil kites and pilot kite for the first time in India,� Pathak added.
