Ex-Assam footballer passes away

Guwahati, May 5: Former Assam footballer Mahendra Brahma who represented the State in Santosh Trophy passed away on Wednesday morning at his hometown Barama after a prolonged illness. He was 57.

Apart from participating in Santosh Trophy, Brahma was also a part of Assam Police football team from 1987 to 2000. At the time of his demise he was working with State police.

Sports fraternity has condoled the demise of the footballer. Assam Football Association (AFA) in a condolence message said that it's a huge loss for the State.

"We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Mahendra Brahma. It's a loss to the football in the state. Our deepest condolences to the family members of Brahma," said Hemandra Nath Brahma, secretary of AFA.
