BUKSS walkathon for media persons draws good response in Silchar
Silcar, Aug 29: Remembering Hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand on his 116th birth anniversary which is celebrated across the country as National Sports Day, the Barak Upotyokya Krira Sangabadik Sanstha (BUKSS) organised a walkathon for the media persons on Sunday.
The Kali Sankar Das memorial walkathon saw over 20 participants in both male and female categories who walked from the District Sports Association to spread messages of a fit body and healthy mind. Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty flagged off the rally alongside BUKSS central president Riten Bhattacharjee and other functionaries of the sports journalists body and officials of District Sports Association Silchar. Ranu Dutta and Shipra Saha were the walkathon champions in the respective categories.
"It is indeed a great occasion when we pay our tributes to India's hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand. This year, our hockey teams have earned glory in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics and gave us a great reason to rejoice. I thank the BUKSS for organizing this walkathon and hope that this will disseminate inspirational messages to people across Barak Valley. I assure to extend my support and cooperation to the scribe's body in their chores in the coming days," Chakraborty said.
Satananda Bhattacharjee, the central observer of BUKSS said that amidst such a crucial phase when COVID-19 has posed stiff challenges before everyone, such an initiative is a way to remind people about the necessity to maintain a balance between body and mind for healthy living. Riten Bhattacharjee expressed his happiness over the assembly in making the event successful.
