Smuggled medicinal species seized

JORABAT, Nov 25 - Precious forest medicines from Meghalaya were recovered from a Manipur-bound night super service bus bearing registration number MN 01 1795, last night at Byrnihat.

The bus was travelling from Guwahati to Shillong around 8.45 pm yesterday when the smuggled medicines were recovered from an owner-less bag. The seizure was made by staff of Meghalaya Forest and Environment department, near 12th Mile, Byrnihat AC Forest beat office, official soures said.

The bag contained some very rare, precious and endangered species of forest medicines found in the remote forests of Meghalaya which have a very high value in international markets. Forest officials suspect the items were being smuggled to China.
