Red Cross gesture to flood, violence-hit

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 � The Indian Red Cross Society, Assam State Branch and its district branches are providing relief operations in the flood and violence-hit areas in cooperation with the civil administration. Family packages - kitchen sets, blankets, dhotis, sarees,towels, bed sheets, tarpaulin sheets, mosquito nets, buckets, mugs � were being provided to those who have lost everything in the recent deluges and in the violence-hit Uriamghat and Sarupathar areas in Golaghat district.

The flood relief operations are being carried out in 12 district subdivisions in a phased manner starting from Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Goalpara, Nalbari, Morigaon, Udalguri, Kamrup (R), Jonai, Dhakuakhana and Majuli, in addition to the South West Garo Hill district of Meghalaya, which was devastated by the recent cloud burst.

With the leadership of the chairman of the Society Renuka Devi Barkataki, the district secretaries in association with the respective DCs and SDOs prepared with assessment, the list of beneficiaries, a press release stated.
