Manipur police arrests four persons with huge quantities of illegal drugs, ganja in separate incidents
Imphal, July 6: At least four persons were arrested by Manipur police in separate drives against illegal drugs and psychotropic substances in the last two days in the state, police said on Tuesday.
Police sources said that a team of police commandos in Bishnupur district had arrested a person after 243 gram of heroin powder (No. 4) was recovered from his possession on July 4, around 8 am. The arrested person identified as one Fakruddin Khulakpam of Bishnupur district was arrested during a frisking and checking operation at Kwakta Maronglou. The arrested person came on a scooter (Honda DIO) without the registration number. The arrested person along with the seized item was latter handed over to Moirang police station where a case has been registered for further investigation, the police source added.
In yet another incident, police in Jiribam district of Manipur seized huge consignments of contraband cough syrup and ganja on Monday. Personnel of the district police at its Leingangpokpi outpost along NH-37 seized the contraband items during checking at trucks plying along the highway, the police said. During a check to a truck entering Manipur from the Assam side, the police recovered 1996 bottles of Codeine cough syrup in 20 cartoons. The psychotropic substance was found concealed in the truck, the police said, and the driver of the truck, identified as Alauddin Ahamed of Kamrup district of Assam was arrested.
On the same day, the police in the same district seized another consignment of ganja from a truck coming from Imphal side. A total of 816 kg of Ganja in 77 packets was found concealed inside the vehicle.
The police arrested both the driver Ashis Ankur from Chakdaha village of Birbhum district of West Bengal and the handyman of the truck Bikash Roy.
Jiribam police has registered a case against the two arrested persons for further investigation, the police source here said on Tuesday
