Manipur govt extends night curfew till September 6

Imphal ,Aug 22: Increasing the number of permitted activities,the Manipur government has extended the night curfew imposed in the state from 6 pm to 5 am by another fifteen days till September 6.

The state chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar who is the chairman of the state executive committee of the state disaster management authority issued an order in this regard on Saturday night.

However social gatherings/feasts are not permitted,the order said, adding that the number of Covid 19 positive cases detected per day is declining albeit slowly while the hardships of the people due to continuous closure of many establishments have increased.

It said unavoidable customary and religious rituals can be performed in open sheds by restricting the number of invitees to twenty only. It said the fresh cases of Covid 19 infections shall be isolated as soon as possible and brought to Covid care centres.

The order also permitted opening of Government offices, Public Sector Units and other public utilities with all Secretariat Departments, Manipur Government offices and office of Government of India to start functioning with e-office and physical attendance of Group A officers and 50 per cent of the remaining staff from August 23 by taking adequate precaution and strictly following Covid Appropriate Behaviour.

It also allowed all employees and personal staff working in Information and Public Relations, Power, Fire Service, Public Health Engineering Department, Consumers Affairs Food & Public Distribution, Home, Health, Relief & Disaster Management, Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Finance and Treasuries, Police, Water Resources, Agriculture and Horticulture Departments and District Administration to function normally.

Banking services with limited staff on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 2.30 pm for urgent Government and non-Government transactions only.Hotels for lodging will be allowed to remain open with minimum staff, while restaurants will remain closed. It may be mentioned that the state authority lifted the day time curfew for the first time for 15 days till August 22 after imposing total curfew for 21 days to break the chain of Covid 19 infection.

Meanwhile the state on Sunday recorded 285 new Covid 19 positive cases, when 2,771 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, the official sources said.Thus the state's total infection tally increased to 1,10942, the release said. The total number of active cases stands at 3,994, it said.

Meanwhile the state also reported a total fatalities of 4 Covid 19 patients in the last 24 hours, taking the state's Covid 19 death toll to 1,751,it said.With 426 new recoveries in the last 24 hours, the total number of recovered COVID 19 cases in Manipur reached 1,05,197,it said. Thus the state's recovery rate increases to 94.82 %.
