Itanagar, Feb 18: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra suggested some important 'methods' for strengthening the police forces from all angles to counter the 'emerging security challenges', besides suggesting the cops to "demonstrate fairness, helpful attitude and support for the weak and vulnerable".
The Governor was interacting with the newly-posted Director General of Police (DGP) of Arunachal Pradesh, Satish Golcha, when he called on Mishra at Raj Bhavan here on Thursday.
In the meeting, they discussed the state's law and order situation, besides the issues relating to training and morale of the police personnel, a communique from the Raj Bhavan said.
The Governor emphasized that the police have to be empathetic, prompt and determined, and that they must demonstrate fairness, helpful attitude and support for the weak and vulnerable.
"The police must win the trust of the local people by transparency, discipline, honesty and accountability," he said.
The Governor reiterated the need for merit based recruitment, specialised training, and availability of the essential equipment, weapon and communication means for the Police units. He also stressed on the efficacy of command and control and proper integration of all available workforces.
The Governor further advised the DGP for keeping good equations with the Army Units deployed in the frontier state and synergy of effort amongst the security forces for promoting 'good police' work, the communique added.
It is to mention that Golcha, a 1992 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, has taken over the charge of State's DGP on Tuesday. He replaced the incumbent RP Upadhyaya, who has been transferred to Delhi.
