JORHAT, June 18 - The recovery of a dismembered body of a youth from a pond in Majuli on Sunday has evoked widespread consternation.
A police source said that the body has been identified as that of Someswar Bharali of Kharkati village, who had on Saturday evening reportedly gone to watch a bhaona at the nearby Pahumara village and was missing thereafter.
Locals first found his abandoned motorcycle besides a road and then his mutilated body floating at a nearby pond. The body bore injury marks made by sharp weapons all over the body.
Police investigation is on and four people have been picked up by the police for questioning in connection with the incident.
