Manipur's Rongmei film selected for International Folklore Film Festival

Imphal, Feb 20: Manipur's Rongmei tribe's film has been selected and screened at the International Folklore Film Festival of Kerala.
Young Rongmei film maker Kachangthai Gonmei who directed, scripted, edited and produced the 120 minute-long film ‘Nakamh-Riangsuanneic’ confirmed the news.
The said film which was based on Rongmei Naga folklore, had its world premiere during the International Folklore Film Festival of Kerala 2021 which is currently underway at Payyanur in Kerala's Kannur district since Friday.
The film which received the censor certificate from Central Board of Film Certification on February 13, 2020, was among nine films selected in the competition section of the three days long festival organised by the Kerala Folklore Academy, Chirakkal.
The film tells the story of an orphan called Nikamh who lives in Makuailuangdih village in the western part of Manipur. Riangsuanneic, the daughter of a rich man, who is very gorgeous with long hair and skillful in weaving, lives in the same village.Later Nikamh dies in the war of love. Kachangthai Gonmei and Achngna Kamei played the lead roles in the film.
Kachangthai, who has a Master degree in political science, has so far directed and produced five other Rongmei films- San Khou Rui De, Baanhthi Baanhnam, Baanhthi Baanhnam 2, Nagta Na de Zeanmei and Puinau Puidaa.
He previously received a jury award for his film Puinau Puidaa in 2018 organised by SSS Manifa in Manipur. Kachangthai is a resident of Tupul village in Manipur's Noney district.
