IMPHAL, March 10: Manipur is all set to impose a ban on the use of single-use plastics in the State from May 15. The ban is being clamped in a bid to control the rampant use of plastics and the littering of plastic waste.
Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) Minister Henry Okram stated this while speaking at the flagging-off ceremony of a weeklong cleanliness drive in the heart of Imphal city today.
The cleanliness drive was organised by the Imphal West district administration in collaboration with the MAHUD Department as part of celebrating four years of the present State Government.
Minister Henry urged the people to support implementation of various welfare initiatives taken up by the Manipur Government.
Stressing that collective effort and dedication is the need of the hour to make the cities and towns clean, he stated that the purpose of the current drive is to sensitize the public about the impact of single-use plastics on the environment.
