Imphal, Mar 26: Police in Manipur on Thursday penalised a total of 166 persons during its crackdown on violators of guidelines and restrictions to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the State.
A police statement said that during Thursday’s drive, 166 persons were detained and released later after warning and slapping fines. A sum of Rs 22,700 was collected as fine as per law, it added.
The police have been conducting drives against people violating COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions including failure to wear face masks in public places, failure to maintain social distancing in public places, spitting in public places since the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of pandemic in March last year.
Till date, the state police has penalised 1,26,441 violators of COVID-19 guidelines and collected Rs 1,69,65,170 as fines. During the period, 51,850 vehicles were also detained, the police said.
Meanwhile, the total COVID-19 infection in the state surged to 29,367 as five more fresh cases were reported on Thursday.
The state Health department said that the five fresh cases were detected during testing of 885 samples in the past 24 hours (till 4pm of March 25) and all of them were from the general population.
Among them two each were from Imphal West and Imphal East districts while the remaining one from Bishnupur district, it added.
As there was no death due to the pandemic in the last 24 hours, the fatality tally remained at 374.
During the same period, one person was discharged upon recovering from the viral disease.
Of the total 29,367 exposed to the virus including the five fresh cases reported today, 28,936 were recoveries and there were 57 active cases in the state. The recovery rate was 98.53%, the Health department said.
Meanwhile, with the vaccination of 657 people on Thursday, the total number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 in the state reached 83,749. The total included 31,395 healthcare workers.
