Manaswinee, Rupam win tennis titles

GUWAHATI, Jan 9 � City girl Manaswinee Hazarika clinched the girls U-18 title in the 15th North East India Open Tennis Championship which concluded at Golaghat today.

In the final, Manaswinee outplayed Shreyoshee Dutta of Golaghat 6-0, 6-1. Rupam Boro, also of Guwahati, became the proud winner of men�s singles event defeating Rupam Gogoi of Sivasagar 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a well contested final.

But Rupam Gogoi won the boy�s U-18 title beating Avinash Kaushik of Guwahati 6-3, 6-1.

The girls U-14 title went to Shreyoshee who downed Himarani Basumatary of Guwahati 6-2, 6-1. The boy�s U-14 was lifted by Bishnu Vivek Saikia of Golaghat who got the better of Manas Pritam Kuli 6-3, 6-1 in the final. Sivasagar boy Manas, however won the boy�s U-12 title with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Rituraj Gogoi also of Sivasagar.

Debanga Pratim Hazarika of Golaghat was adjudged most promising player of the championship. The meet was organised by Golaghat Tennis Club at their own courts and was sponsored by ONGC, NRL and SBI. Gautam Upadhay was the match referee in the championship.
