GUWAHATI, Feb 8: Jwngsar Basumatary clinched the silver medal in triple jump (U-18 years age category) with a distance of 15.00m on day three of the ongoing 36th National Junior Athletics Championships at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai here today.
Basumatary, a native of Kokrajhar missed the gold by a whisker as Mithilesh Kumar Surend of Tamil Nadu occupied the top spot with a distance of 15.03m.
This is Assam’s fourth medal in the event as the State had earlier won three medals on day two on Sunday.
In the U-16 boys’ 100-metre, Idul Hussain struck a silver by clocking 11.16 seconds and in U-20 boys’ 10,000-metre walking, Bikram Das clinched a bronze completing the distance in 44.07 minutes.
In U-14 boys’ 60-metre race, Anshuman Bhagawati won bronze. – Sports Reporter
