Janmasthami celebrated

GUWAHATI, Aug 22 � Janmasthami, the occasion marking the birth of Lord Krishna, was celebrated with religious fervour and traditional gaiety across the State today along with the rest of the country.

The city, too, witnessed an enthusiastic celebration of the occasion, with the devout thronging the temples and naamghars since early in the morning to pay obeisance to Lord Krishna. The atmosphere reverberated with the chanting of hymns and naams in praise of the Lord.

The evening saw the places of worship illuminated with decorative lighting. The ISKCON temple at south Sarania was a centre of attraction, drawing big crowds of devotees and revelers.
