JACRU demands state govt to make intentions clear on reviving paper mills in Assam

Ahead of the all important hearing at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on the fate of the two closed paper mills under Hindustan Paper Mill Corporation (HPC) on February 9, the Joint Action Committee of Recognised Unions (JACRU) has demanded that the State Government must make its intentions clear on reviving the mills.

Terming the NCLT hearing day to be an acid test for the Government, Manabendra Chakraborty, president of JACRU said, "this would be the ninth date of the hearing and yet the Government has not submitted any plan or proposal citing the mindset on the question of revival of the closed paper mills at Cachar and Nagaon districts."

Chakraborty made it clear that if the Government fails to present any plan even on Tuesday, fate of the mills would be in danger and lives of the employees who are already dragged to miserable condition would worsen beyond words. In such circumstances, they would be forced to resort to vigorous agitation especially ahead of the Assembly election in the state.
