Oscar 2022: CODA scripts history as first streamer to win Academy Awards
Guwahati, March 28: The 94th Academy Awards were presented on Sunday. For the first time Apple TV+ made history at the 94th Academy Awards as the first streaming service to take home the film industry's biggest prize. With the Oscar wins — CODA won three awards, including Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay. CODA is about a deaf family with a hearing daughter.
The award ceremony which took place after the pandemic witnessed an upbeat atmosphere. However, it was shortly disrupted when best actor winner Will Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock onstage over a joke about the actor's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
India's Writing With Fire, directed, produced and edited by filmmaker duo Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas, that documents the story of Khabar Lahariya, a newspaper run by Dalit women journalists lost out the Best Documentary Feature honour to 'Summer of Soul'.
