Guwahati, Feb 27: Anonymous, an international hacking group has claimed responsibility for shutting down several of Russia's government websites, most notably that of the Ministry of Defence and State TV channels.

Several websites and channels have been inaccessible since the group declared a cyberwar against Russia since it launch an invasion against Ukraine on February 24.

The channels were "hacked to play Ukrainian songs" the Kyiv Independent reported on Saturday afternoon.

A string of reported cyberattacks came to the fore as Putin advanced military operations in Ukraine.

As per reports, webpages for Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service, and Cabinet of Ministers are included in the outages.

Even though it is not clear what caused the interruptions, the hacking collective Anonymous took to Twitter on Saturday morning and said that it was "at war with Russia. Stay tuned."

This announcement was made via a series of Tweets from different Twitter handles which were supposedly managed by the collective of the popular cyber hackers.

Reportedly, Russian state media has denied the outages are linked to Anonymous.
