Guwahati, Jan 31: Thousands of cab drivers under the All Assam Cab Mazdoor Sangha have decided to boycott cab aggregators- Ola and Uber- in Guwahati from February 1.

The union in a statement said that the decision was taken due to excessive commission and blocking the accounts of the drivers.

Instead of Ola and Uber, the cabs will be available in apps like PeIndia and An2 Cabs, a member of the union said.

“We have several demands and we will not ply our vehicles in Ola and Uber till our demands are not met,” he said.

The union demanded that the aggregators have to reduce their commission rate to 15 percent from the present commission rate of 30/40 per cent.

A special loan needs to be provided for the education of the children of the drivers and health insurance for the drivers, among others. However, the All Assam Cab Operators’ Union and All Guwahati Cab Drivers’ Union have not extended their support to the boycott.

An official of All Assam Cab Operators’ Union said that around 5000 cabs under the two unions will be available in Ola and Uber.
