GUWAHATI, Aug 8 � The Gauhati University Teachers� Association (GUTA) has appealed to the State Government agencies, and all other stakeholders, including political parties to work towards ensuring the well being and security of displaced people currently in camps in the violence affected areas of Western Assam. At the same time GUTA also underlined the need to create a conducive atmosphere in which the affected people can be properly rehabilitated.
A press statement issued today mentioned that a team of GUTA had recently visited the violence hit areas in Chirang district.
GUTA president Prof Hariprasad Sarma and secretary Dr Dwipen Bezbaruah along with other members had also visited two relief camps at Basugaon College and Basugaon Higher Secondary School and interacted with the inmates.
The team confronted a reality that revealed the difficult living conditions of those in the relief camps, who did not enjoy hygienic living conditions. Immediate rehabilitation of the camp dwellers was therefore considered essential.
GUTA has called for meaningful discussion on the conflict in BTAD areas involving all interest groups to usher in permanent peace in the area.
