GUWAHATI, Jan 30: For the first time in the history of the Gauhati University (GU), four departments of an affiliated college have been granted PG approval on the same day.
At a ceremonial function organised at Pragjyotish College here on Friday, Dr Biswajit Sarma, Director of College Development Council (CDC), GU, formally handed over the approval order for opening post graduate courses in the departments of geography, geology, zoology and education to the Principal of the college Dr Manoj Kumar Mahanta, said a press release issued on Saturday.
CDC Director Dr Sarma said that in the history of GU it is for the first time that four departments of an affiliated college have been granted PG approval on the same day.
Principal of the college Dr Mahanta acknowledged the need for commencing the post graduate programmes in colleges in order to cater to the growing demands among students.
Invited guest Dr J Ray Choudhury, president of the college governing body; Prof Jogen Ch Kalita from the Department of Zoology, GU; Prof Madhushree Das, Head, Department of Geography, GU and Dr Jagannath Patgiri, retired faculty, Department of Geography, Pragjyotish College were present at the function. The function was also attended by the faculty members and post graduate students of the departments concerned, the press release added.
