ECI issues show cause notice to Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI, April 1: Election Commission of India has served a notice to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) star campaigner and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly 'threatening BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary' of sending him to jail.

The Commission is, prima facie, of the view that Sarma has violated the Model Code of Conduct. The notice has been served based on a complaint by the All India Congress Committee.

"The commission gives you an opportunity to explain your position in making the statement on or before 5 pm on 2nd April, 2021 failing which the Commission shall take a decision without any further reference to, " the notice served by Secretary Ajay Kumar Verma stated.
