SHILLONG, Dec 14 - A five-member team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) today reviewed the election preparedness in Meghalaya by holding a series of meetings with different officials in the State.
Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Deputy Election Commissioner, in-charge of Meghalaya, part of the five-member team, said various issues relating to polling activities were reviewed during the meetings and the State seems to be well prepared to hold the polls.
He further added that several officials are being trained to get themselves familiarised with the EVMs and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines.� The polling will be conducted in the State though VVPAT machines�, he claimed.
The Deputy Election Commissioner said assessment for security coverage is still going on with the concerned stakeholders as various factors are to be taken into consideration.
There are 3,082 polling stations in Meghalaya with an increase of 519 polling stations from the last election held in 2013.
Kumar further stated that the Chief Election Commissioner will visit the State after the Gujarat polls for a fresh assessment. The State election machineries, he said, are capable enough to make the polls a success.
