GUWAHATI, March 22: The supply of water from the Satpukhuri Water Treatment Plant in the city will be disrupted from Tuesday due to a technical snag which developed at the plant on Monday.

Hundreds of households in Kharghuli, Lamb Road, Latasil, Silpukhuri, Chandmari, Bamunimaidam, Nizarapar and Joypur areas among others will be affected from Tuesday.

“Due to a short circuit in the 500 KVA transformer at Satpukhuri Water Treatment Plant, water supply in the areas will be disrupted till Thursday. The water supply in the areas will resume immediately after completion of the work,” a GMC notification stated on Monday.

The restoration work has already begun and is likely to be completed before Friday.

“There is no alternative system to supply water to the affected areas. People have to purchase water from private suppliers or gather water from other sources,” a GMC source said.

A resident of Chandmari area, Bitupan Nath said, “We do not have alternative arrangements like tubewells. We are dependent on piped water supply only.”
