The Assam Tribune impact: Financial aid to Nalbari footballer

Guwahati, May 25: After The Assam Tribune brought to light the plight of former footballer Dwijen Barman, a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 was handed over to him from Chief Minister's Relief Fund today.

Barman had represented Assam in various national level football tournaments in different parts of the country.

The cheque was handed over to Barman by Pabitra Ram Khaund, Director of Sports & Youth Welfare, at his residence at Nalbari, in the presence of District Sports officials.

An official press release said this is part of a larger scheme proposed to be initiated by Sports & Youth Welfare Department for identification of former sportspersons in various districts of the State and enabling them to lead a comfortable and financially secure life even after their active sporting days are over.
