Situation along Assam-Mizoram border continues to be tense as 2 houses burned down
Hailakndi, June 6: Tension continues in Assam-Mizoram bordering Gutguti area of Hailakandi district after the burning of two houses.
Hailakandi Superintendent of Police, Ramandeep Kaur today said that the two cases have been registered regarding the burning of houses and construction of structure by the miscreants from Mizoram within Assam land. She said that the inquiry has been initiated to find the miscreants behind the burning of houses and illegal construction of structure within 300 meters inside the Assam land from the border. She said that after the tension in the border a few months back, people vacated the houses near Gallacherra BoP and the miscreants burnt down the two houses in the area.
Gallacherra BoP is totally abandoned, she added. Regarding the construction of structure in Assam land by the Mizo miscreants, Kaur said that the area falls under inner line reserve forests covered by jungle and it is very difficult on the Assam side to reach the spot. SP Kaur informed that the matter has been taken up at the higher level in Mizoram and hoped that the issue would be sorted out shortly with the intervention of both the states. She admitted that the demarcation of the bordering area has not been accepted by all and problems created due to this. Security forces have been placed in the area, she added.
Assam shares a 164.6 kms border area with Mizoram.
It is reported that the suspected Mizo miscreants set fire to the houses of Ali Hussain and Saidul Islam on Friday night in Gallachherra village bordering Mizoram under Ramnathpur police station area of Hailakandi district. Although they were not at home during the time of the incident. The deputy commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur, Officer in Charge of Ramnathpur Police Station, Liton Nath and other forest officials rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
