Govt of Assam withdraws travel ban to Mizoram

Silchar, Aug 5: On a day when Governments of Assam and Mizoram issued a joint statement to pitch in efforts to find lasting solution to the vexed issue of boundary dispute between the two states, the State Government has withdrawn the travel advisory which had restricted movement of Assam citizens into Mizoram on the grounds of safety and security concerns.

On Thursday, MS Manivannan, the Commissioner and Secretary, Home and Political Department Government of Assam, through a notification, has withdrawn the travel advisory which was issued on July 29 following tense situation prevailing as an aftermath of the interstate skirmish on July 26 at Lailapur in Cachar district.


"In view of the joint statement issued today i.e. 5th August 2021 by the representatives of the Governments of Assam and Mizoram, the Travel Advisory issued vide No. HMA/19/42/2021-VIG H&P/Pt-I/ECF168844/28 dated 29th July 2021 is hereby withdrawn," the notification issued on Thursday read.
