DLSA Cachar distributes second phase of ration to sex workers of Silchar
Silchar, June 12: In compliance with the order from the Gauhati High Court dated 28-05 -2021 in case no PIL/28/2021 for distribution of ration to the sex workers during COVID-19, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Cachar has augmented the second phase of ration distribution among the sex workers of Silchar on Saturday.
Dr Partha Sarathi Bhattacharjee, Secretary DLSA Cachar informed on Saturday that amidst the ongoing restrictions in the wake of COVID-19, the second phase of the ration were distributed to the sex workers area as a part of the World Day against Child Labour; adhering to the spirit of the order from the Gauhati High Court. Para legal volunteers Mithun Roy and Anand Rabidas along with legal aid counsel Poulami Nag facilitated the distribution of the ration which included rice, dal, potato, soybean and other edible items, the secretary said. He further informed that steps were taken to enumerate a 17 year old boy who was found to be affected by cerebral palsy in the Deen Dayal Divyangjan Pension scheme of the Government.
The affected minor would be given a monthly pension of Rs 1000. Dr Bhattacharjee informed that in compliance with the High Court order, the Cachar Deputy Commissioner and DLSA Cachar had distributed the first phase of ration to the sex workers of Silchar on 28-29 May this year. The directions of the honourable High Court were passed in order to address the financial hardship created by COVID-19, the DLSA Secretary said.
