Silchar, May 5: Amidst steep rise of COVID-19 cases across the state, another 115 persons were found to be affected by the virus via the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on Wednesday in Cachar district.

District Media Expert Suman Choudhury informed that while 248 COVID-19 positive cases found on Tuesday mark the highest number of cases found till now in the present calendar year, the cases detected on Wednesday indicate a positivity rate of  7.75 percent. " The positivity rate is higher in many places including Kalain and even in the Silchar urban area. This leads us to adopt measures like targeted surveillance and as a part of the initiative all the ILI and SARI cases would be put to RAT test. If the samples turn out to be negative but persons show symptoms, they would have to undergo RT PCR  tests as well," Choudhury said.

He was quick to add that the District Health Department is closely monitoring the availability of oxygen and other essential equipment to combat the emergency situation.

On the other hand, authorities at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital inform that two more COVID-19 afflicted persons have collapsed at the hospital on Wednesday. There are 126 active cases at the hospital, authorities informed.
