Congress releases third list of 22 candidates for Assam Assembly polls

Among the prominent candidates fare Aftab Uddin Mollah who will contest in the Jaleswar constituency, Jakir Hussain Sikdar in Pakabetbari, Dr Durlav Chamua in Nagaon-Batadraba

GUWAHATI, March 20: The Congress party on Thursday announced its third list of candidates for altogether 22 constituencies for the Assam Assembly elections.

Among the prominent candidates featured in the list are Aftab Uddin Mollah who will contest in the Jaleswar constituency, Jakir Hussain Sikdar in Pakabetbari, Dr Asif Mohamad Nazar in Laharighat, Dr Durlav Chamua in Nagaon-Batadraba, Roselina Tirkey in Khumtai and Manik Chandra Brahma (Kokrajhar).

Other candidates are Sapali Marak (Baokhungri), Ashraful Islam Sheikh (Parbatjhora), Baby Begum (Dhubri), Pradip Sarkar (Abhayapuri), Matilal Narzary (Sidli Chirang), Abdur Rahim Ahmed (Chenga), Jagadish Madahi (Baksa), Rafie Daimary (Tamulpur), Soren Daimari (Udalguri), Sunil Chetry (Naduar), Joyonto Khaund (Ronganadi), Ghana Buragohain (Lakhimpur), Ananda Narah (Dhakuakhana), Sibanath Chetia (Makum), Sanjeeb Teron (Howraghat) and Zubair Anam Mazumder (Algapur-Katlichera).

Earlier, on March 19 the party released its second list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. 

In the second list, released by Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal, three sitting MLAs have been renominated.

They are Wazed Ali Choudhury from Birsing Jarua, Abul Kalam Rasheed Alam from Goalpara East and Rakibuddin Ahmed from Chamaria. Former Lok Sabha MP Abdul Khaleque, who has also served two terms as an MLA, has been named as the party’s candidate from the Mandia constituency.

The party's first list of 42 candidates was released on March 3.
