Cachar: Guardian Minister sets 120 days timeline for setting up toilets, drinking water facilities in over 1000 Govt schools
Silchar, July 4: Reacting on the issue, Minister of Urban Development, Irrigation and Guwahati Development Ashok Singhal, who is also the Guardian Minister for Cachar district said that Government has chalked out clear plan for addressing the issues in the government schools the district where there is lack of toilets and drinking water facilities.
"The report submitted by the District Elementary Education Officer of Cachar district suggests that 64 Government Schools in the district do not have toilets for girl students while 101 toilets need repair work; 174 such schools do not have toilets for the boys while 214 need to be repaired. As many as 336 schools need arrangement of drinking water facilities along with 413 schools that need electrification at the earliest. All these would be completed within the next 120 days and the Department of Education and concerned departments have agreed to act with priority. Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli will also keep vigil on the progress of the work within the deadline.
It is my first visit to Cachar district and a new learning experience for me and I have conveyed the intentions, which to accomplish the implementation of the Government schemes in a time bound manner maintaining quality and delivery system," Singhal told reporters on Sunday while rounding up his observations during his two-day visit to the district.
