Assam Police committed to ensure free and fair election: Spl DGP

MANGALDAI, March 22: State Special Director General of Police Dr LR Bishnoi has stated that the Assam Police is committed to ensuring a free, fair and a peaceful election in the State.

At the same time, police is determined not to tolerate any violation of the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), he asserted.

Dr Bishnoi was talking to media persons during his visit to Mangaldai to take part in a specially arranged daylong training and awareness session organised for all the gazetted police officers and officers in-charge of Darrang and Udalguri districts.

The session, organised in the conference hall of the SP’s office at Mangaldai recently, was attended by Election Observer (Police)-cum-Inspector General of Police of Nagaland, Jasbir Singh, DIG of BTR Violet Baruah, Superintendent of Police of Darrang Amrit Bhuyan, Superintendent of Police of Udalguri district Ripul Das, and Second in Command of 136 CRPF Arvind Bisht.

Senior police officials of both the districts, officers in-charge of Darrang district and officers in-charge of Udalguri district also attended the session.

Dr LR Bishnoi stressed proper implementation of the directions issued by the Election Commission of India and directed all police personnel to keep a close watch on the happenings in their respective areas and to keep the senior officers well informed about any suspicious development.

He also emphasised enhanced police-public interaction and inter-district coordination.

During the session, the Special DGP urged all police officials to keep a tab on inflammatory posts or those having communal overtones in social media platforms, and to promptly respond to any violation of Election Commission guidelines with clinical efficiency.
