Surya Cement marks World Health Day with TB nutrition support drive in Assam
Guwahati, April 10: Reinforcing its commitment to community health, Purbanchal Cement Ltd, popularly known as Surya Cement, recently organised a nutrition support initiative for tuberculosis (TB) patients at Tamulikuchi State Dispensary on the occasion of World Health Day.
As a registered Ni-kshay Mitra under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the company has been extending monthly nutritional assistance to TB patients since 2023.
Continuing this effort, it has now pledged a six-month support programme aimed at strengthening recovery outcomes for patients, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Recognising that adequate nutrition is critical in improving immunity and treatment efficacy, the company distributed kits comprising protein-rich essentials such as eggs, masur dal, nuts, mustard oil, milk, and Nutrela.
“Our commitment to the community goes beyond business. Health is the foundation of a prosperous society. On this World Health Day, we wanted to take a step beyond traditional CSR and directly impact the lives of those fighting TB,” said Shri Vedant Agarwal, Managing Director, Purbanchal Cement Ltd.
“Recovery from TB requires not just medicine, but also proper nourishment, and we hope this initiative supports patients in their journey towards full recovery.”
Shri Subrat Kr. Dhal, Vice President – Plant, said the company’s association with the Ni-kshay Mitra initiative reflects its intent to ensure that no patient in its operational area is deprived of essential nutritional support.
“We are honoured to collaborate with the District Health Department in this mission and remain committed to the wellbeing of our communities,” he added.
The programme was attended by Dr. Mridul Bharati Nath, District TB Officer, along with officials from Sonapur Block PHC and Tamulikuchi State Dispensary.
Appreciating the initiative, Dr. Nath said, “Nutritional support is a crucial component of TB treatment, as many patients are unable to afford a high-protein diet. The commitment shown by Purbanchal Cement strengthens our collective fight against tuberculosis and its socio-economic impact.”
Purbanchal Cement Ltd continues to position itself as a leading regional cement manufacturer with a growing emphasis on health-focused CSR initiatives and community development.
