ANVC(B) chief appointed as Nokma of Tura

Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

TURA, Jan 11 Achik National Volunteers Council(B) chairman Bernard Marak was appointed as the Nokma of Tura town on January 2 last.

The sole intention of the appointment of Marak as the town Nokma is to bring about traditional administration in the town, something which has been missing for a long time and has led to violation of tribal rights, said a press release.

The appointment comes at a time when the Centre is seeking to amend the 6th Schedule to include the demands made by the two disbanded militant outfits, seeking to strengthen the local heads at the village level and to bring about traditional administration.
