AASU to celebrate 100 yrs of Chhatra Sanmilan

GUWAHATI, Dec 22 - To mark the beginning of the centenary year of launch of Assam Chhatra Sanmilan, the first student organisation of the State, the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) will light earthen lamps at public places across the State on December 25.

The Chhatra Sanmilan, under the leadership of Karmabir Chandranath Sarma and Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbaroa, came into being in the Latasil playground here on December 25, 1916.

The birth of a students� organisation in Assam will complete 100 years on December 25, 2016. To mark the beginning of the centenary year, 99 earthen lamps will be lit at public places of the State.

A number of activities have been lined up for the centenary year celebration, said an AASU statement. In the first phase, a State level essay competition, district level debate competitions and memorial speeches will be organised. The student body has also decided to publish selected essays on the occasion.
