DIBRUGARH, Jan 28: Three days after Dibrugarh University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) staged a massive protest in the varsity campus against the alleged embezzlement of funds by Vice Chancellor Professor Ranjit Tamuli, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) unit of Dibrugarh University (DU) today stormed the office of the Vice Chancellor in support of their demand for a high-level enquiry into the series of alleged financial irregularities.
David Hazarika, executive member of AASU from the varsity said that allegations of corruption and siphoning off public funds are of very serious nature and, therefore, the student body has demanded an independent enquiry. “Today our heads hang in shame because of the increasing allegations of corruption and financial scams in the varsity. AASU will carry on protests until a high-level independent enquiry team is instituted,” he said.
The protesting students demanded that the Assam Governor-cum-Chancellor of the university immediately institute a high-level probe to investigate the alleged scams in the varsity.
