11th Moghai Ojah Award conferred to folk musician Mahendra Chutia

Jorhat, March 16: Noted folk musician Mahendra Chutia, a dhol player from Jorhat, was conferred with the 11th Moghai Ojah Award in a function held at the Shree Shree Pitambar Devagoswami auditorium of Jorhat District Library on Monday.

The award instituted in 2011 in the name of the dhol maestro Moghai Ojhah by the Jorhat district unit of the AJYCP, was presented to Chutia by State AJYCP President and Rana Pratap Baruah and General Secretary Palash Changmai.

The award carried a cash prize, a citation, a gamosa, a seleng chadar and a memento. The award is annually presented on March 15 on the death anniversary of Ojah.

AASU President Dipanka Nath and folk culture researcher Dr Amarendra Gogoi attended the function as special guest while known singer Loknath Goswami spoke on the life of  Moghai Ojah as the appointed speaker.

AJYCP Assistant General  Secretary Siba Kalita anchored the function. Earlier a cultural procession, flagged off by popular singer Manash Robin was taken out across the town.
